Kenya’s rift valley escarpments offer some of the most breath taking views whilst the tree hotels which overlook waterholes offer great wildlife viewing in the evening and the rift valley lakes offer amazing bird watching opportunities.
Day 1 – Aberdare ranges
Depart Nairobi in the early morning and drive to the Aberdare Ranges to a Tree Hotel which overlooks floodlit waterholes frequented by wildlife. As dusk ensues, we enjoy a relaxing sun downer whilst viewing game as they gradually approach the waterhole – a truly magical experience. Animals to look out for in the Aberdares and Mt Kenya waterholes are the elusive rare bongo, buffalo, rhino, elephants and other herbivores.
Day 2 – Samburu
After breakfast we proceed further north across the Equator to the edge of the Northern Frontier; to Samburu game reserve. Arrival around lunch hours followed by an afternoon game drive in this diverse landscape of thorn scrub, red dirt, dried river beds, broken volcanic rock, steep hills, and rocky outcroppings. Return for a sun downer and dinner at the lodge/tented camp.
Day 3 – Samburu
The following day will be spent relaxing and leisurely exploring the Samburu Reserve enjoying sightings of the uncommon Grevy’s zebra with huge fury ears, gerenuk antelope standing on hind legs to feed, Somali ostriches with distinct blue legs, shy Oryx as well as elephant and crocodiles.
